YesMen, Voina, Reverend Billy und Mac Ghillie in Zürich: “Der «coffeebreak of a revolution» (3.-5. febr.), der im rahmen der ausstellung «dada new york II: the revolution to smash global capitalism» im cabaret voltaire stattfand, war sehr produktiv. es fand ein intensiver austausch zwischen lokalen und internationalen kreativen aktivisten statt. neben den geplanten aktionen, reverend billy trieb der UBS den teufel aus und das aufhängen der voina-banner, stieg die ganze bande spontan in die macghillie-anzüge (knowbotiq) und stürmte die lobbys der zwei schweizer grossbanken UBS und CS. “Punkt 15 Uhr am Zürcher Paradeplatz platzten rund 15 als Wischmops verkleidete Aktivisten in die Banken CS und UBS ein und führten eine Oberflächenreinigung durch. Meier pries die Aktion als «neue Reinigungstechnologie an, die auf Ganzkörpereinsatz basiert.» Und: «Ein internationales ExpertInnenteam wollte damit der hartnäckigen Verschmutzung der Schweizer Banken auf den Leib gehen.» Die Sicherheitsleute der UBS und CS seien sichtlich überrumpelt gewesen, so Meier, dessen heiteren, symbolträchtigen Events immer wieder mediale Aufmerksamkeit erregen. «Man versuchte uns zu stoppen, aber das war bei 15 Wischmops schwierig.»”

Ter Garcia (Waging Non Violence) writes about Spanish activists using Gene Sharp´s techniques of civil desobedience.

Last month, Spanish activists associated with the May 15 movement began a new campaign, Yo No Pago (I Don’t Pay), inviting fellow citizens to practice civil disobedience by not paying for public transport. Contending that the current political regime is not giving people a say in how their taxes are being spent, they feel there is no choice but to withdraw payment.

The failure by the oil industry to properly clean up oil spills and other pollution in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria exacerbates human suffering and environmental damage, and leaves people exposed to sustained violations of their economic, social and cultural rights.
The two major oil spills which occurred in 2008 in Bodo, in the Ogoniland region of the Niger Delta, continued for weeks before they were stopped – more than three years later Shell has still not cleaned up the pollution.
In August 2011, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) found that Shell has failed to effectively clean up oil pollution in Ogoniland for years. While significant responsibility for human rights abuses in the Niger Delta rests with the Nigerian Government, UNEP’s findings make clear that substantial responsibility also rests with Shell…

They built a self-organized tent city and began to meet some of the community’s most urgent needs. They renamed the plaza Oscar Grant Plaza in honor of a young African-American man who was shot and killed by BART Police in 2009.
